TS REBEL

Welcome to the online home of TS REBEL!

TS REBEL is a coastal training station based on the Essex coast. It provides offshore, power boat, keel boat and yacht racing training for cadet members of cadet uniformed organisations.

It is a Recognised Training Centre for the Royal Yachting Association and an Independent Operating Authority for The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award.

Over the course of an annual training season it would expect to provide over 300 course places for cadets. In addition to practical training it also offers shore based courses for navigation, sea survival and VHF radio.

The training staff comprises 18 volunteer instructors, all of whom hold appropriate RYA qualifications for their various roles. Over the course of a year it would expect its students to achieve 200 plus qualifications between them.

TS REBEL operates under the Training Afloat Regulations issued by the Minsistry of Defence. It has fully implemented the Child Protection Policy of the Sea Cadet Corps. Its offshore training vessel complies with the Code of Practice for Small Commercial Vessels, its racing yachts comply with RORC 4 (Special) Regulations and its power boats comply with the guidelines issued by the Royal Yachting Association.

For cadets demonstrating exceptional aptitude the option to join the Yachtmaster Fastrack programme is offered. This is designed to equip suitable cadets to be able to competently undergo the RYA/MCA Yachtmaster practical exam on their 18th birthdays. In 1994 a cadet trained by TS REBEL became the youngest Yachtmaster in the World.

The school works with capital assets valued at circa £200K. It has an annual operating budget of circa £30K. This is funded by contributions from the Marine Society and Sea Cadets, Worshipful Company of Shipwrights, course fee income from participants, other donations and also the results of its own fund raising activities.
