TS REBEL

The Boats

The TS Rebel fleet includes a wide range of power and sail vessels. They include:

Halmatic 19 Cadet Training Boat
This is a 19’ boat with a 35hp diesel inboard engine specifically designed by Vosper Thorneycroft for training cadets in handling motor boats. Its powerful engine provides trainees with the opportunity to learn basic skills quickly and then to develop those skills further to achieve “command” qualifications. The vessel is coded for sea-going under the Small Commercial Vessel scheme operated by the Marine and Coastguard Agency.

Mitchell 31 Launch
THAMES SHIPRIGHT is a 31’ power launch with a 135hp inboard Ford Sabre Diesel engine. The boat is used for powerboat training and provides an excellent alternative for cadets to gain experience in a different vessel. In addition to the training role she provides on water support to the keelboat and racing operations as well as yearly visits to London for support to cadet activities there.

Hunter Sonatas The centre operates two of these 7m fast and exciting small yachts. They provide ideal platforms for first time cadets keen to learn sailing skills and can also provide the training environment demanded by students to gain experience and to achieve the qualifications necessary for skippering the boats by themselves. The boats are equipped to the standards required under RORC 4 (Special) regulations and can, therefore, also participate in local yacht races when the opportunities arise.

Hustler SJ30 Racing Yacht
Built by Oyster Yachts this very fast boat provides all the excitement of yacht racing for its extensively trained young crews. Only cadets who have qualified aboard the keelboats are eligible as crew. SMOKEY TOO is regularly entered for local racing series and regattas. A fast turn of speed ensures that cadet crews can usually bank on having lots of boats behind them when they hit the finishing line!

Offshore Yacht
TS LEOPOLD MULLER is a 35’ Oceanquest offshore sailing yacht built by Westerly Yachts. She is coded under the Small Commercial Vessels scheme and can engage on offshore training operations up to 60 miles from the coast. With a relatively shallow draft she is able to use all of the training areas in and around the Thames Estuary, including the rivers, for extensive training for anything from the first time cadet on board a sea-going vessel for the first time through to adults seeking their Yachtmaster qualification.
