Diving (Sub Aqua)



Welcome to the London Area Diving Page, which is designed to give you all the information you will need to participate in the Diving Proficiency.



SCUBA Diving in the Sea Cadet Corps is carried out under the umbrella of BSAC (British Sub - Aqua Club) who are the National Governing Body for diving. SCUBA diving in the Corps is a proficiency, which can earn cadets 14 points.

Qualification Points Breakdown

Ocean Diver = 2
Sports Diver = 4
SCC Naval Acquaint
= 8 (Diving Helmet Badge)




Steps to achieve the SCC Naval Acquaint Qualification

To achieve the diving helmet badge and 8 points is not easy, below is a breakdown of how it is achieved.

1. Attend and pass BSAC Ocean diver course.
2. Attend and pass BSAC Sports diver course.
3. Be a member of BSAC.
4. Attend a pre - Acquaint course.
5. Attend and pass the SCC Naval Divers Acquaint at Horsea Island.

Course Information

BSAC Try Dive

A try dive is done in the safe confines of the swimming pool, under the instruction of a fully qualified BSAC instructor. A try dive consists of watching a short video, being introduced to the SCUBA equipment, and then it’s into the water for a new and exciting experience.

BSAC Ocean Diver

This course provides the essential knowledge and skills needed to prepare for open water diving. The Ocean Diver course prepares for this in the safety of a swimming pool or sheltered water and an introduction to open water in a controlled, safe manner. Experience and confidence will be gained under the guidance of a qualified instructor. Maximum depth - 20m.

BSAC Sports Diver

Sports Diver training builds a sound foundation of open water diving skills and experience with structured, practical lessons. Qualified Sports Divers are ready to take part in dives with other Sports Divers or higher. Depth can be built progressively to a maximum of 35m after qualifying.
Sports Divers can embark on the first stage of the route of instruction.

SCC Naval Diving Acquaint

This is not a course to teach you to dive but to introduce you to the royal navy diving techniques, the equipment is different to ocean / sports diving courses the student will be wearing a dry suit and full face mask.

All London Area Courses will be advised via the area website and also LATMs, so please keep a close eye on the 2012 program.
